Species

Rank

Fish Status

BLUEGILL

Good

Several Bluegill over 7 inches were collected during the 2022 survey. However, the presence of Gizzard Shad in the lake will likely prevent many Bluegill from reaching 8 inches.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Developing

Channel Catfish have been stocked annually since 2020. No catfish were collected during the 2022 survey. However, electrofishing is not always effective for sampling catfish, especially in deeper lakes like strip cuts.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Poor

All bass collected during the 2022 survey were under 12 inches. However, bass sample size was very low and may not adequately represent the population.

Location: Pyramid State Park is located south of Pinckneyville in Perry County. To reach Spring Lake, head west on Pyatt-Cutler Road from State Route 127, then turn north into the Spring Lake parking area, which is located just east of the main park entrance.

Description: Spring Lake is an 8-acre strip cut that has a gravel boat launch. There is no dock at this lake and parking space is limited.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: Fisheries surveys conducted during 2022 consisted of a nocturnal spring electrofishing survey. No IDNR surveys had been conducted at this lake prior to 2022. The majority of fish collected during the 2022 survey were Gizzard Shad and Bluegill, while a few bass were also collected. Electrofishing effort during the next survey should be increased to produce a larger sample size of game fish.

Additional Lake Information: There are no boat motor restrictions at this lake but the entire lake is a “NO WAKE ZONE” and all sizes of boat motors must operate at no-wake speed.

Site-specific Regulations:
Largemouth bass: 5 fish under 14” and fish 1 over 18” limit, 14–18 inch protected slot (no possession)
Channel catfish: 6 fish daily limit

2 pole and line fishing only and bowfishing is allowed.

Fishing is allowed on this lake year-round.
