BLACK CRAPPIE

Fair

Black Crappie are present, but the electrofishing survey yielded only two small individuals that were 4-5 inches in length.

BLUEGILL

Poor

A handful of small Bluegill were collected during electrofishing. None exceeded 3 inches in length.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Fair

One Channel Catfish measuring 14 inches was collected during the 2023 electrofishing survey.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Very Good

Largemouth Bass up to 20 inches were collected during the 2023 electrofishing survey.

Location: Pyramid State Park is located south of Pinckneyville in Perry County. The Captain Section is accessed off Panda Bear Road. From State Route 127, head west on Pyatt-Cutler Road. About 6 miles west of Pyramid State Park, turn north onto Panda Bear Road.

Description: Wigeon Lake is former coal slurry pond located just south of Super Lake in the Captain Unit of Pyramid State Park. The lake is roughly 18 acres in size and is relatively shallow with stained water. There is no boat ramp or other facilities and bank access is limited. The lake can be accessed on foot by following a long trail due north of the gravel parking area at Pintail Lake.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: An initial electrofishing survey was conducted during September of 2023. The survey yielded several good size bass between 16 and 20 inches, in addition to small Bluegill, Black Crappie, Channel Catfish, and Common Carp. Gizzard Shad were not captured but were observed in the lake.

Additional Lake Information: Note: There is no motor HP limit, but all boats must be operated at no wake speed.

Largemouth bass: statewide limit of 6 fish/day
Bluegill or redear sunfish: 25 fish daily limit
Crappie: 25 fish daily limit
Channel catfish: 6 fish daily limit
Muskellunge: 48-inch minimum length limit

2 pole and line fishing only and bowfishing is allowed. All live bait in excess of 8" must be rigged with a quick set rig.

Please note that fishing is prohibited from November 1 through the last day of February.
