BLUEGILL

Very Good

Relatively few Bluegill were collected during the 2023 electrofishing survey. However, one individual was 8.75" in length, indicating excellent growth potential for Bluegill in the lake. Given the clear water conditions and timing of the survey (late summer), it is likely that most larger Bluegill were in deep water and not susceptible to electrofishing.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

The 2023 electrofishing survey yielded a high abundance of bass between 10 and 14 inches, which is typical of a lake with big Bluegill present.

Location: Pyramid State Park is located south of Pinckneyville in Perry County. Bluebill Lake is located on the Galum Section of Pyramid State Park. The Galum Section is accessed off Panda Bear Road. From State Route 127 head west on Pyatt-Cutler Road. About 6 miles west of Pyramid State Park turn north onto Panda Bear Road.

Description: Bluebill lake is a 30-acre strip mine lake located east of Super Lake. There is no boat launch at this lake. The lake can be accessed on foot by following a short trail from the parking area off of Panda Bear Road. Due to the relatively short walking distance to reach the lake, anglers with a kayak or canoe will likely find an opportunity to fish in seclusion.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: Bluebill lake harbors a quality fishery for Bluegill and Redear, which frequently exceed 8 inches in length and provide quality angling opportunities for those that can access the lake with portable watercraft. Largemouth Bass are abundant, but generally do not exceed 14 inches in length due to stunting.

Additional Lake Information: Note: There is no motor HP limit, but all boats must be operated at no wake speed.
