Fish Status

BLUEGILL

Poor

An abundance of small Bluegill were collected during the 2023 survey. None exceeded 5 inches in length.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

Very few bass were collected during the 2023 electrofishing survey. However, one large individual over 19 inches was collected. Given the very clear water conditions and timing of the survey (late summer), it is likely that most bass were in deep water and not susceptible to electrofishing.

Location: Pyramid State Park is located south of Pinckneyville in Perry County. The Captain Section is accessed off Panda Bear Road. From State Route 127, head west on Pyatt-Cutler Road. About 6 miles west of Pyramid State Park, turn north onto Panda Bear Road.

Description: Blue Goose Lake is a 23-acre strip cut lake located in the Captain Unit of Pyramid State Park, west of Super Lake. There is a gravel boat launch, but no dock or bathroom facilities at this lake.

History and Status of the Sport Fishery: An initial community electrofishing survey was conducted during September of 2023. Although the overall catch was low due to clear water and time of year, the survey did suggest that bass >18" are present. Future surveys will be attempted during spring in hopes of collecting a better representation of the fish community.

Additional Lake Information: Note: There is no motor HP limit, but all boats must be operated at no wake speed.

Site Regulations:
Largemouth bass: statewide limit of 6 fish/day
Bluegill or redear sunfish: 25 fish daily limit
Crappie: 25 fish daily limit

2 pole and line fishing only and bowfishing is allowed. All live bait in excess of 8" must be rigged with a quick set rig.
