Sport Fishing License News for Residents Over 75 Years of Age

August 2014—On August 1, Governor Pat Quinn signed a law that reduces sport fishing and hunting license fees to $1 for Illinois residents over 75 years of age. House Bill 4329, sponsored by State Senator Gary Forby (D-Benton) and State Representative Jack Franks (D-Marengo), not only reduces the sport fishing and hunting license fee to $1 for Illinois residents who are over 75 years of age, but also waives the fee for Salmon Stamps, Inland Trout Stamps, State Migratory Waterfowl Stamps, State Habitat Stamps, Pheasant Stamps and State Furbearer Stamps for Illinois residents who are over 75 years of age.

Maintaining the $1 fee allows Illinois to capture federal funds that are apportioned to the states according to how many licenses are sold, the state’s land area and other factors.

The new reduced fishing and hunting licenses for seniors 75 of age and older will be available after October 1st. The fee for either license will be $1 plus the 50  cent processing fee.

The licensing  process systems are taking longer than planned to make this changeover.  IDNR apologizes for the delay.  Seniors over 75 who have purchased their licenses after August 1st, the day the law was signed, will get a refund.  The form for requesting the refund will be on this site very soon.
